The Department of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, at the University of Toronto is seeking applicants for the position of Program Director, Palliative Medicine. Applicants must be eligible for a full-time clinical academic appointment at the University of Toronto. Preference will be given to applicants at the rank of Assistant Professor or above. The term of the Program Director (PD), Palliative Medicine appointment is five years with the possibility of one renewal following a successful review. Effective start date is September 1, 2018.

The Program Director, Palliative Medicine is a leadership position, highly valued and pivotal to the overall success of the Department. The Program Director, Palliative Medicine is responsible for the overall conduct, organization and accountability of the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada’s Palliative Medicine residency training program. The PD reports directly to the Divisional Director, and the Vice-Chair, Education or his/her designate; this position is also accountable to the Associate Dean, Postgraduate Medical Education.

The ideal candidate is a respected clinical teacher and innovative leader with well-developed interpersonal and communication skills with an interest in education scholarship. A solid track record of scholarship and innovation would be a strong asset. S/he will ensure that residents are able to achieve the competencies of Palliative Medicine and that they are thoroughly prepared for their Royal College examinations and future careers as Palliative Medicine Subspecialists. The Program Director, Palliative Medicine will receive administrative support and an annual stipend from the Department of Medicine.

Applicants must be practicing Palliative Medicine physicians or have completed the conjoint residency in Palliative Care after receiving a designation as an Internal Medicine Specialist. Applicants must be eligible for certification in the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and licensure in Ontario.
