Master Teacher Program - Dr. Umberin Najeeb Appointed Co-Director

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Dr. Umberin Najeeb as Co-Director of the Department of Medicine’s Master Teacher Program.  Dr. Najeeb will be joining Dr. Danny Panisko to lead the MTP and is replacing Dr. Tina Borschel, who has left the University of Toronto.

Dr. Najeeb is an Assistant Professor of Medicine and a staff internist at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre.  She is a graduate of Khyber Medical College at the University of Peshawar in Peshawar, Pakistan and a graduate of the Internal Medicine Residency Program at the University of Toronto.  She is a Fellow of the College of Physicians of Surgeons of Pakistan and Royal Colleges of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. She completed the Education Scholars Program from the Center of Faculty Development at University of Toronto in 2014.

Dr. Najeeb has been on faculty at the University of Toronto since 2010.  Since 2014 she has served as the Faculty Lead for the R4 Internal Medicine Program and has led its development into one of the most successful postgraduate programs in the Department of Medicine.  She has also served as Faculty Lead for a unique mentorship program for international medical graduate (IMG) physicians and is recognized as an authority in this area.  Dr. Najeeb has won numerous teaching and mentorship awards, both on undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including the 2014 Peters Boyd Academy Clerkship Faculty Teaching Award, the 2014 Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre Dept. of Medicine William J. Sibbald Faculty Mentoring Award, 2016-2017 Peter's Boyd Academy Faculty Award of Merit, and the 2017 University of Toronto Sarita Verma Award for Advocacy and Mentorship in Postgraduate Medicine.  She will be starting in her position as of January 2018.
